Hello!

My name is Jolena, and I’m the proud Owner and Director of Big Brain Adventurers Outdoor Summer Camp — a place where curiosity is encouraged, creativity runs wild, and kids get to be kids.

I’m an educator with over 10 years of experience, and I truly believe that the best learning happens through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences — especially outdoors. I hold a diploma in Early Childhood Education from Mohawk College and an Honours degree in Early Childhood Education from Brock University. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in licensed childcare centres and school-based classroom settings, gaining experience with children ages 1 through 12. My background includes working in toddler, preschool, and school-age programs such as before- and after-school care, summer camps, and emergency care during COVID. I’ve also had the opportunity to work within school boards in both Kindergarten and Life Skills classrooms, supporting children with diverse abilities, learning styles, and strengths. These experiences have shaped my approach to programming — one that is inclusive, child-led, and rooted in respect for each child as an individual.

Summer 2026 is an exciting milestone — it marks the 5th year of Big Brain Adventurers! Even better, I’ll be an on-site Director this summer. That means I’ll be fully involved in the day-to-day fun as the Lead Facilitator, spending my time outdoors with the children, guiding activities, supporting exploration, and building meaningful connections. I believe strong relationships are the heart of a great camp experience, and I love being right in the action.

As we head into our fourth summer, I have no doubt it will be jam-packed with adventure, laughter, and learning. Camp days will be filled with outdoor exploration, creative art projects, imaginative play, games, water play, and nature-based experiences — plus plenty of opportunities for kids to follow their interests and try new things. Every activity is thoughtfully planned to support social-emotional growth, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Our Big Brain Camp Facilitators are passionate, experienced, and carefully selected educators who share the camp’s philosophy and values. Above all else, we prioritize the safety, well-being, and happiness of every child while creating an environment where they feel supported, capable, and excited to show up each day.
